How Does Invisalign® Treatment Work?
Invisalign treatment uses what’s called “progressive aligners” to gently move teeth from their original position to their final position. Each clear, comfortable aligner is in a slightly different shape, with each one bringing the teeth closer to perfect alignment.
After your Invisalign consultation at our Woodbridge office, we’ll take an impression of your teeth and send it to a dental lab. Using that information, the lab produces the necessary number of progressive Invisalign aligners by using the latest advances in 3D computer technology and manufacturing methods. How many aligners are made and how long you’ll have to wear the aligners depends on the complexity of your specific case. Our dentist will answer all of your questions during your consultation.
You wear a new aligner every week or every other week, following a routine set by the dentist. You’ll return to our office in Woodbridge for check-ups and to pick up more aligners about every four to six weeks.
For the best results, you should wear the Invisalign aligners 20 to 22 hours a day, removing them only when you eat, drink, brush or floss. You should also remove the aligners if you smoke.
Many people ask, “How long does it take for Invisalign to work?” The answer depends on how much your teeth need to move, and whether you’re wearing the aligners for the recommended amount of time each day. Our Invisalign dentist will have a good idea of how quickly you should be able to have a beautiful, straight smile after he examines your teeth. The first step is to schedule your Invisalign consultation.
What are the benefits of Invisalign treatment?
One of the reasons so many people prefer Invisalign to braces is that Invisalign is practically invisible; your friends and family may not even notice you’re wearing Invisalign. Other benefits include:
- There are no brackets or wires like traditional braces use. That means there’s nothing sharp to irritate your gums or cheeks.
- Because there are no brackets or wires to be adjusted, you’ll need fewer visits to our Invisalign dentist in Woodbridge. Typically, appointments are about six weeks apart.
- Invisalign aligners are removable, not fixed. You can remove your aligners when you eat or drink, so you can enjoy popcorn, nuts, corn on the cob, hard fruit, chewy candy and other foods that aren’t allowed when wearing traditional braces.
- It’s easier to keep your teeth clean. You simply remove the aligners to brush and floss like normal. When you have braces, the brackets and wires can make oral hygiene more challenging.
What is Invisalign Teen®?
Invisalign Teen is Invisalign treatment designed for teenagers who have their permanent teeth. It’s a popular solution for teenagers who play sports, play musical instruments, or simply prefer the look of clear aligners over metal braces.
Invisalign Teen is very similar to Invisalign in how it is made and how it works, but includes a few key differences. For example, Invisalign Teen aligners have a small, color-changing element that is visible to the dentist. This allows our Invisalign dentist in Woodbridge to tell whether the teenager has been wearing the aligners for the recommend amount of time.
Another difference between Invisalign and Invisalign Teen is that more replacement aligners are usually provided with Invisalign Teen just in case a set gets lost or broken.
How much does Invisalign treatment cost?
Only your Invisalign-trained dentist can provide you with a cost of treatment, which is based on your individual needs. In general, however, the cost is consistent with the price of traditional braces.
The cost can be influenced by factors such as the complexity of the case, the length of treatment, and the number of aligners you need to achieve the desired results.
Insurance coverage for Invisalign differs from policy to policy, so we recommend you review your policy or call your insurance carrier to see if it treatment is covered. Often, a policy that covers orthodontics will also cover Invisalign.
Do you have a flexible savings account? An FSA can help minimize your costs by allowing you to put $2,550 of pre-tax dollars toward the cost of your Invisalign treatment.
Our team can also talk to you about options for flexible, affordable monthly payments.
